At Southwest Florida Pain Management Research Center, our clinical research team is composed of dedicated professionals who are passionate about advancing medical science and improving patient care. Prathima Moorthy, M.D.

Site Medical Director

Dr. Prathima Moorthy is the Medical Director and Principal Investigator at Southwest Florida Pain Management Research Center. As the Medical Director, she oversees the scientific and ethical conduct of every Principal Investigator in the institution. She leads educational programs to educate the site staff on clinical research affairs and medical science. As Principal Investigator, Dr. Moorthy ensures adherence to GCP, IRB, site's SOPs, and study protocols while making the safety of study participants and data integrity her priority. She collaborates closely with clinical research coordinators, sponsor's CRAs and medical monitors to oversee participant recruitment, Informed Consent Process, and clinical assessments. Under Dr. Moorthy's leadership, Southwest Florida Pain Management Research Center has consistently met or exceeded enrollment targets and maintained high standards of data quality, earning partnership from sponsors.​

Dr. Moorthy completed her undergraduate at the young age of 17. After two years of research at the NIH in Washington D.C., she attended the U of Wisconsin College of Medicine.​

 

She completed her internship at Johns Hopkins University and a residency in PM&R at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX. She has completed extensive clinical training at MD Anderson and University of Houston Texas Medical hospitals. She completed a one-year interventional anesthesia-based pain fellowship in Atlanta, GA at Cobb hospital. She is board certified and holds a Florida medical license.

She has been in practice in Naples, Florida at the Pain Management Center of Naples for over ten years. She performs all of her surgical procedures at a Medicare accredited surgery center.

Dr. Nanavati is a specialist in all aspects of digestive disease, particularly pancreaticobiliary endoscopy. Dr. Nanavati has special interest in advanced endoscopy, ERCP, endoscopic sphincterotomy, cholangioscopy, capsule endoscopy, pH Bravo capsules for acid reflux, diagnostic colonoscopy and colon cancer screening, upper gastrointestinal tract bleeding, swallowing disorders, reflux disorders, GI motility disorders, Celiac disease, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, Hepatitis, Cirrhosis, cancer of the liver, pre-transplant evaluation for chronic liver disease, diverticulitis and diverticulosis, treatment of internal and external hemorrhoids, obscure GI bleeding, colon polyps.  He also performs diagnostic endoscopic ultrasound.​

An honors graduate of Johns Hopkins University, Dr. Nanavati continued his studies at the University of Vermont College of Medicine in Burlington, Vermont, receiving his medical degree in 1998. He completed his internship and residency in the Department of Medicine at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center in Baltimore. In 2001, Dr. Nanavati joined the fellowship program at the Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas. He was subsequently appointed as faculty at Baylor and remained at the program. Dr. Nanavati has since trained further in endoscopic ultrasound at the University of Montreal.

Carmen Ojeda, M.D.

Dr. Carmen Ojeda is the Clinical Research Site Director at Southwest Florida Pain Management Research Center, where she oversees the strategic, operational, and clinical aspects of multiple clinical trials. With over 15 years of experience in clinical research and healthcare, Dr. Ojeda is a foreign ECFMG certified medical graduate with a Master's in Clinical Research from New York University, specializing in epidemiology and clinical trial design. Dr. Ojeda earned her MD from UNIBE School of Medicine, Dominican Republic, followed by her internship from NYU.

Her passion for advancing medical knowledge led her to clinical research and the creation of a research center that is patient and data centered. As site director, she is responsible for ensuring compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Institutional Review Board (IRB) regulations, and sponsor requirements. She leads a multidisciplinary team,

including clinical research coordinators, nurses, pharmacists, laboratory technicians, and regulatory staff, to achieve study-specific targets while prioritizing participant safety and data integrity.

Her leadership its focused to exceed enrollment goals and maintain a reputation for high-quality trial execution. Dr. Ojeda is a member of the Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP) and ACRP-CP certified. Dr. Ojeda is also a university Anatomy & Physiology professor and mentors early-career researchers.
